Portland Asst. GM Bardsley Gives Insight On Johnston Hire
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) – Assistant General Manager of the Portland Winterhawks Matt Bardsley joined Chris Mack on "The Late Shift" Wednesday evening.
He served under new Penguins head coach Mike Johnston for the past seven years.
Bardsley points to Johnston philosophy, but says, "He has a way of communicating with players, which makes him successful."
He talked about Johnston's strengths.
"How he manages his people, whether it be players or staff," said Bardsley.
He thinks that will bode well for Johnston at the next level.
Bardsley goes on to say that Johnston's teams are not predictable, especially when it comes to getting the puck into the offensive zone.
Chris asked about how Johnston's philosophy translates to the power play. Bardsley feels very confident in changes that will be made.
"With that amount of talent on the ice, teams are going to start to be careful how many penalties they take," he said.
They finish up by talking about Derrick Pouliot who is recovering from a shoulder injury. The 20-year-old played for Johnston in Portland as a junior player.
Bardsley spoke very highly of the youngster.
"He is a dynamic defenseman," he said.
