PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Public transit in Pittsburgh officially has a new name.

Port Authority of Allegheny County is now known as Pittsburgh Regional Transit - or PRT.

"This is more than just a new name and a new look. This marks the start of a new era and a new direction for our agency and our region," said Board Chair Jeffrey W. Letwin.

The rebranding process began in 2018, gathering input from employees, riders, and stakeholders. The pandemic ultimately put the process on hold, and it was revised late last year.

"Our new name acknowledges that we're not just part of the community; the community is a part of us," said PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman. "Our goal moving forward is to be a reflection of our incredible, vibrant community."

More information such as schedules, brochures, website, and signage will be redesigned over the next year.
