Police: Uber Driver Kidnapped Passenger, Took Her To Hotel

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP/KDKA) - Police say an Uber driver is facing kidnapping and assault charges after taking an unconscious female passenger to a Maryland hotel.

Prince George's County Police Uber driver Westagne Pierre picked up a female passenger at a bar in the District of Columbia and took her to a hotel about 10 miles northeast in College Park instead of dropping her off at home in Virginia.

According to WUSA, Pierre left the victim in his car while he checked in. Court documents indicate Pierre is seen on surveillance video leaving the lobby, walking back to his car, and pulling the victim out of the back seat.

"The Defendant then lifts the victim into the air, and wraps his arms around her so her feet are not touching the ground," the documents said. "The Defendant then carries the motionless Victim toward room 109 and enters into the room."

"After spending some time in the room with the victim," police say Pierre also used the woman's credit card to buy $14 worth of goods from a nearby 7-Eleven.

Sources in the police department tell WUSA when the victim woke up she immediately called police.

Esteban Gergely, an attorney for Pierre, tells the newspaper that Pierre denies there was a lack of consent.

A spokesperson for Uber called the allegations "deeply upsetting," saying that the accused driver has been banned from the app. They say he passed all of their background checks.
