Police SWAT Situation Shuts Down Brushton Ave. In Homewood South
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police closed part of Brushton Avenue in the city's Homewood South neighborhood early Wednesday morning for a SWAT situation.
Officers were first called to the 700 block of Brushton Avenue around 2 a.m. after a man and woman arrived at the Zone 5 police station to report a shooting.
According to police, the couple said an unknown male with a gun had approached them. The man with the woman pulled his gun and shot the lone male one time. Another man then came out of a residence and started shooting at them from the porch.
A short time later, a male arrived at UPMC Shadyside. Police say he had a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where he was listed in critical condition.
Police say the male who was shooting from the porch was seen going back inside the residence. SWAT was called to scene and Brushton Avenue was closed between Frankstown Avenue and the East Busway.
Around 4 a.m., police evacuated several people from the residence. One person was removed on a stretcher. Police have not said whether anyone was taken into custody.
The majority of the police presence cleared the scene around 5 a.m., but part of Brushton Avenue remained closed until later in the morning.
