Police Seek Woman Caught On Camera Stealing Packages From South Side Home
SOUTH SIDE (KDKA) – Police are searching for a thief caught on camera stealing packages from the front porch of a house on the South Side.
It all happened while a young child watched her every move from a stroller.
The woman took at least two packages off that front porch and it may not be her first theft.
At first, it looks like a friendly visit by a young mom and her toddler.
However, the woman doesn't know the person who lives in the home and she obviously had no clue about his sophisticated surveillance system.
She stole the recently delivered packages from inside his screen door.
"The next thing I saw that was really odd that she had that kid with her and I thought that's terrible," the victim said.
The child sits in the stroller, watching the deliberate and bold actions of a crime in progress. The woman tucks away the stolen items and casually strolls away.
Photos of the theft made their way to social media and YouTube around the same time the Brentwood Police Department posted surveillance footage on their Facebook page of a similar crime five hours after the South Side incident.
A young woman with a blue umbrella with white writing swiped parcels from a porch in the 2900-block of Clermont Avenue.
There is speculation from dozens of viewers that this could be the same person.
"It looks like it. The other video is kind of grainy, but you can kind of see she has the same umbrella. Either way, whether it's one person or several people, it's a problem," the South Side victim said.
A Facebook user posted surveillance photo of another blond, ponytailed thief making off with boxes from a porch in Carrick.
That made three southern neighborhoods with similar incidents, but do these crimes have a connection?
"I'm not so upset about the money or anything like that. It's just the fact that this is going on. If we could fix that, that would be one less problem down here," the South Side victim said.
The South Side victim has filed a formal police report with Pittsburgh Police.
The next step is for investigators to start analyzing the video to see if there's a connection to other two cases.
