Police Seek Suspect In Fatal Double Shooting In Northview Heights

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police are investigating a double shooting that claimed one person's life, left another person wounded and sent the SWAT team to Pittsburgh's North Side this afternoon.

The incident happened just after 2:30 p.m. in the 300-block of Penfort Street in Northview Heights.

"911 calls came in for shots fired in this area, several calls came in," said Lt. Daniel Herrmann, of Pittsburgh Police. "When police arrived, they found one male lying in a parking area. The male was deceased on the scene. Another man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where he's in good condition."

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim as 19-year-old Eugene T. David III from Braddock. He was pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m. in the parking lot where his body was found. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

The person who was wounded, a 41-year-old man whose name has not been released, is being treated at Allegheny General Hospital for a gunshot wound to the right thigh. He is listed in good condition, police say.

According to police, the gunfire rang out during a confrontation between two different groups of men. It's believed more than one person was fire shots.

So far, police say they have not determined what started the confrontation.

Authorities say the SWAT team was called in after a suspect was reportedly seen running from the scene. He may have gone into a building in the area.

Investigators had two cars towed from the scene.

Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, collected shell casings, questioned possible eyewitnesses and checked nearby surveillance video while officers questioned the surviving victim to see if he might identify the suspect.

Meantime, SWAT team officers searched the nearby Northview Heights Estates high-rise apartment building after reports that someone ran into the building after the shots rang out.

The investigation continues.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to call Pittsburgh Police's homicide office at 412-323-7161.
