Police Find Missing 2-Year-Old In Butler Co.

BUTLER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A 2-year-old boy who wandered away from his family in Butler County Friday afternoon was found safe about a mile from where he disappeared.

Police and volunteer firefighters fanned out in Alameda Park in Butler Township after a call to 911 around 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon from the boy's anxious mother.

She reported that her 2-year old son, Lian Kovach, had disappeared while the family was in the park.

But this search had a happy ending when the boy was found a couple of hours later, walking in a wooded area near the 100-block of Blair Drive, about a mile from where he was last seen.

The residential road borders the park near Route 422.

Jean Binus, who lives on Blair Drive, said she was outside when two men came from around the back of her house and told her they were looking for a missing child.

Not long after that, around 4 p.m., Binus said she saw Kovach walking to the top of the road with mud on him, but otherwise he looked good.

She got him a bottle of water because he appeared to be thirsty.

"Mud all over him, cause there's a big hill back here, he had to climb pretty far," said Jean Binus, who lives on Blair Drive. "And so, he got up here, the Sheriff's Department was here, ran in to get a bottle of water, we thought maybe he needed a drink, and we stood up here with him until the mom came. He looked fine, nothing wrong with him."

The boy and his very relieved mother were reunited moments later.
