Police Need Help Tracking Down Armed Robbery Suspect In Aliquippa
ALIQUIPPA (KDKA)- Police hope surveillance video will help lead them to an armed robber in Aliquippa.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to the Rite Aid on Sheffield Road.
Employees say a man entered the store coughing. He walked up to the register and the clerk asked if she could help him.
"The whole time he was covering his face with a handkerchief, coughing, I guess some type of disguise or diversion," said Aliquippa Police Chief Don Couch.
The man lifted up his shirt and showed her a gun. He demanded money and the clerk opened the cash register.
"The guy produced a gun, whether it was real or not, I don't know, but to that clerk it was real and we'll take it as it was real," said Couch.
In the surveillance video, the suspect can be seen reaching over the counter and grabbing the money from the drawer.
Police believe the man ran away from the store after the robbery.
He's described as a white man, about 6-feet tall, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, a T-shirt and blue jeans. His face was covered with a red bandana.
"Usually when you get good video footage, somebody out there recognizes the person, somebody does," said Couch. "The way they walk, the way they dress and that's very helpful for law enforcement for pointing us in the right direction."
Police are not only reviewing video from inside the store, but also from neighboring businesses. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
