Police Investigating Vandalism In Fayette Co. Community

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Halloween is long over, but the Devil's Night antics that are often associated with that night just got started in one local community.

A group of vandals rolled through the Dawson community in Fayette County between the late-night hours of Tuesday and early morning hours of Wednesday. They used pumpkins to do their damage.

A drive down Upper Hulton Road and it's clear whoever set to destroying other people's property was a big fan of smashing pumpkins.

Jim Guth's car was the unfortunate target of the pumpkin-launching group. The broken window and orange rind tells the tale.

"It's sad," he says.

Guth's car not the only thing busted up. Mailboxes up and down the road were crushed or completely decapitated. But the vandals didn't get Guth's because a few years ago his was hit.

So, now, he says he goes "to the Post Office a quarter mile away."

"If the mail box was there, maybe they'd of left my car alone," he added.

Guth says he could take a $500 hit out of this. He only has one question.

"Why? Why do anything to innocent people? Just to get a rush," he says.

Whoever is responsible could face vandalism charges, but they could also face federal counts for damaging the mailboxes.
