Police investigating apparent shooting near Route 51 in Pittsburgh's Beltzhoover neighborhood

Police continue to investigate apparent shooting near Route 51 in Beltzhoover

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The inbound lanes of Route 51 were shut down Saturday night after an apparent shooting.

Police say the victims were traveling in the inbound lanes off Route 51 when they were struck by gunfire.

"There's just way too much gun violence going on right now," Diandra Connell said. Pittsburgh police say it was around 10:30 Saturday night when two adults, with two children in the backseat, traveling along Route 51 were the victims of a drive-by shooting.

"I don't know why they can't put the guns down, have a good night, and go home at the end of the night."

Police say the victim's vehicle was headed inbound on Route 51 at Bausman Street when someone in an SUV pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, hitting the two adults inside.

The victims drove themselves to a local hospital, where they were treated for gunshot wounds, and the children were treated for cuts from broken window glass.

"You never know, things can happen anywhere. The fact that it's close to a park like this is not good," New Castle's Drew Allen said.

The shooting happened a block from McKinley Park, where families and individuals alike go to play and exercise. They tell KDKA enough is enough.

"I know it's summertime, but we still have to enjoy the summer instead of bad things happening."

Police say this investigation is ongoing. If you have any information about this shooting, you're asked to call the police.
