Neighbors React After Three People Shot On Pittsburgh's South Side

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The number of shootings in the Pittsburgh area rose again overnight as three people were shot on the South Side.

KDKA talked to residents in the area who say they heard the early morning shots fired.

Temperatures are getting warmer and COVID-19 restrictions are becoming obsolete.

Add those together and South Side residents are concerned about violence on the rise.

On Sunday, shots were fired on East Carson Street, forcing police to shut down four blocks to investigate.

"Nobody wants a shooting in their backyard, you know what I mean?" said South Side resident Malcon Caudle.

Hannah Peake lives only a block away.

"Usually around two the bars close, so there's a lot of people coming out, a lot of commotion. But probably around 2:30 to 3:30 we definitely heard some gunshots," Peake said.

Around 2:35 a.m., police found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his leg.

He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

And later in the morning, two more men showed up in hospitals on their own accord.

One was shot in the leg, and the third victim just grazed by a bullet.

"There's a lot of violence from people because we were trapped inside, but we'll see people coming out for a visit in the cities that aren't usually here," Peake said.

"Hang out with the right crowd, look out for each other, and don't do stupid stuff," Caudle said.

But even with a rise in violence and a shooting just blocks from homes, neighbors don't believe it will affect business in the area.

"I think the South Side is the South Side," South Side resident Jeff Crawford said. "They'll be back. People will be here no matter what unless it got really bad over a period of time but I think they'll be back."

There's been no mention of any suspects or an arrest from Pittsburgh Police.

Detectives from the major crimes and mobile crimes unit are investigating.
