Police Investigating After Marine Vet Killed In Aliquippa

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. (AP) - Police have been trying to figure out who shot a decorated Marine veteran along the street in his western Pennsylvania hometown.

Twenty-eight-year-old Sjavante Gilliam was found shot to death before 7 a.m. Wednesday in Aliquippa.

A Marine sniper who served in Afghanistan, Gilliam received a Purple Heart for being wounded in that country in 2010.

Police were still awaiting autopsy results, but have been treating the shooting as a homicide.

They haven't announced or charged any suspects and were hoping neighbors and any surveillance video from the area might offer clues.

Gilliam has two children and was well-known in the city about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh for his work as a youth football coach.
