Police take two suspects into custody after man shot, pistol-whipped in Beechview
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man was taken to the hospital after he was shot and pistol-whipped in Pittsburgh's Beechview neighborhood.
According to a Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson, police were called out to Belasco Avenue around 1 a.m. after receiving multiple calls for shots fired.
Police found a man who had been shot in the leg. He told officers he was lured to a home in the area where he was pistol-whipped and then several gunshots were fired. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
"Some guy comes out of nowhere, trying to rob me for my car, like 'yo, I need them keys' or something like that," said victim Andrew Ciguy.
"It escalates, he hits me with his gun a few times, he tries to steal my car," Ciguy said.
In his hospital gown, he recalled his first instincts when he was attacked.
"Just trying to survive honestly. Not dying, I was just trying to find a way out, you know?" he said.
Police said they have taken 20-year-old Nyzjayah Majors and 16-year-old James Phillips into custody and they are both facing charges of aggravated assault. Phillips was charged as an adult.
According to police paperwork, Majors was wanted for her involvement in an incident days before in West Mifflin where she allegedly asked another man to meet her. Police say in a similar fashion, that man was also approached by several men and robbed of his wallet, cell phone and car.
Police say Majors was previously arrested in Wilkinsburg for luring a third victim, who was robbed at gunpoint.
The Violent Crimes Unit is investigating.
