Police Investigating After Man Found Dead In Fayette Co. Pond

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after the body of a 21-year-old man was found in a Fayette County pond.

Police say Michael James Cameron was found in the pond around 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

Cameron was a patient at "Another Way" recovery home in Farmington.

Although he had struggled with addiction, his family says he made the decision to get clean and went to the rehabilitation facility.

But Sunday morning his body was found in a pond located between the recovery home and Nelson Road. He was discovered by another patient.

"At first I didn't believe it," said Cameron's brother Clinton Taylor. "None of this makes sense. Then it was, why, how? I know he's supposed to be in a safe place, a place where people shouldn't hurt him. They should be looking after one another."

There's no word on how he died. Another Way did not comment on the situation.

"A place like this should have cameras, security systems," said Taylor. "All this stuff should be on film. This should be a pretty cut and dry thing and it's not."

Cameron's family saw him weekly since checking into the rehab center. They say he was looking forward to his first extended pass, scheduled for next weekend. They don't understand how or why he would have been outside of the facility.

"Someone always had to know every step they made," said Taylor. "When we would go up on visit, we weren't even allowed to go back into the rooms on for privacy reasons, so if they're this strict with us, where did this fall apart with the patients?"

An autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
