Police: Human Remains Found In Mercer Co. May Have Been There For Months

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Human remains were found in a shallow grave in Mercer County on Tuesday and police believe they had been there for several months.

The remains were found on private property on the Mercer-West Middlesex Road in Shenango Township. According to sources, there were signs that the body was at least partially burned.

Today, police released new details about the case.

According to police, the remains have most likely been there for several months and that they are still searching for missing body parts.

Thursday afternoon, the Mercer County Coroner could only say that the remains belonged to a Caucasian male of unknown age.

Police also said they have executed several search warrants in their investigation.

Local authorities were led to the scene by another law enforcement agency.

This is a joint investigation between state police and Sharon and Shenango police.

Sharon Police were called because they have been searching for Joseph Difrischia, who has been missing since Spring.

"We have no confirmation at this point that the body that was found is our missing person, however when you find remains of a human being, the first thing you do is you reach out to departments that have someone actively missing," said Chief Gerry Smith.

Police said they have recovered evidence that indicates there was illegal activity going on at the property.
