Police: Bank Robber Arrested, Admits To Another Robbery
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) - New Castle Police arrested 43-year old Calvin Smith after he allegedly held up the First Commonwealth Bank on East Washington Street.
Police Chief Bobby Salem says the stolen money was recovered.
Police say Smith threatened a teller, but, no weapon was seen.
Chief Salem said Smith was arrested in 2007 for robbing the same bank, but, he was acquitted of the robbery charge at that time.
After he was taken into custody Tuesday, Smith admitted to police that he robbed the Huntington Bank in New Castle early last month.
Smith has been on parole, after serving a 3 ½ to 7 year prison sentence for a 2009 knifepoint robbery of a pizza shop.
Chief Salem said Smith had been staying recently a city shelter.
