Police and SWAT close off Knoxville neighborhood after double shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Pittsburgh Police are investigating an apparent double shooting in the Knoxville neighborhood. 

Police said it was just after 8 a.m. when the incident happened that left two people shot and struggling to survive. 

The area around Knox Avenue, Grimes, and Zara streets was teaming with police this morning. 

Pittsburgh Police said they arrived in the area where shots were fired and discovered a man and a woman on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. 

"I was getting my grandson dressed for school, I heard the gunshots ring out, [it] startled us," said Roy Blankenship. "[I] grabbed the kids and told them don't look out the windows. It's troubling."

As the victims were removed from the scene, Pittsburgh Police SWAT arrived to search for a suspect or suspects. The team focused on an apartment building across from the old Knoxville Junior High School but no one was found.
