Locals Head Off To See Pope In Philadelphia

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Dozens of people from the Pittsburgh area are headed to Philadelphia to pray with Pope Francis this weekend.

"We're off to see the Pope," Duwayne Flinner said.

Duwayne Flinner and his wife Joyce of Prospect, Pa. have been counting down the days until they can experience the leader of the Catholic church.

"We've been to Italy twice and never got to see him there so we figure we'll see him here at home so we're really looking forward to it," Joyce Flinner said.

People from various churches met at St. Paul's Seminary in Crafton Friday morning ready to go.

We spoke to four women from St. Theresa of Avila in the North Hills were full of excitement when KDKA-TV's Amy Wadas spoke to them.

"Everybody we've talked about, everybody we've talked to has been so jealous that we're able to go," Judy Dulemba said.

Dulemba said she's ready to take it all in.

"We were in church last Sunday and we were saying the Creed and we realized this week we will be saying it with a million people," Dulemba said.

These ladies are bringing a petition book with them.

"We decided with our parish that we wanted to bring some of those people with us so we asked them to please write a prayer petition and tell us a little bit about what they're needs were," Kathy Coll said.

"I just wanna hear him. It's gonna renew my faith and recharge," Dulemba said.

These ladies will get to experience their dream once they make their way to the City of Brotherly Love.
