Pittsburgh Weather: Red flag warning issued for high risk of wildfire spread

KDKA-TV Afternoon Forecast (4-12-23)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) —  A red flag warning is in place for the entire area because low relative humidity, gusty wind and warm temperatures are creating a high risk for the spread of wildfires.

A red flag warning has been issued until 8 p.m. Wednesday. This means fires can rapidly spread and become out of control. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged, and you should have a nearby source of water in case there is a fire.

It's another beautiful day ahead with lots of sunshine and highs in the upper 70s.

We'll continue to warm up the next few days. In fact, Thursday will be around 80 degrees and Friday will be in the lower 80s. Typically our average high is around 60 degrees for mid-April, so we'll be about 15-25 degrees above average. The record high for April 13 was 84 degrees in 1941 and the record high for April 14 was 86 degrees in 1883.

This weekend will feature our first rain chances in over a week. Spotty showers will be around Saturday, but it'll be mostly cloudy throughout the day.

A cold front will move through Sunday bringing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the p.m. hours.

Cooler temperatures will follow suit, so by Monday and Tuesday our highs drop into the low 60s and morning lows in the upper 30s. Some areas could see frost Monday morning. So keep that in mind if you already started outdoor gardening.
