Pittsburgh Weather: Cool, pleasant Monday precedes return of hot weather

CBS News Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Light rain showers will be around Monday along with cloudy skies and that should help to keep temperatures in the 60s for most of the day.

I have high temperatures hitting 70 degrees for today in Pittsburgh. There is no guarantee that we hit 70 though with most data coming in hinting at highs in the mid to upper 60s. Rain showers will be light and should have little if any impact on area drivers.

After a cool Monday, the summer starts with more seasonal temperatures beginning Tuesday. KDKA Weather Center

Looking ahead, we warm up after this historic cooldown that stretched through the weekend. We actually saw a record low temperature on Sunday morning, with lows dropping down to 46 degrees. It tied the record set all the way back in 1871. The temperature is the coldest on record at the airport. Official records began at the airport in 1948 and the official record was kept in other various places before then.

Highs on Tuesday should reach into the mid-80s with highs near 90 on Wednesday. There does appear to be a chance for scattered showers on Wednesday. Storms will be possible for the afternoon and we are listed as being under a marginal (level 1 out of 5) risk of severe weather for that day. Temperatures remain in the mid-80s for the rest of the week.
