Pittsburgh Stadiums, Arena Generate $107M For City Since '09
PITTSBURGH (AP) - An audit shows an entertainment tax levied at Pittsburgh's major sports facilities and other venues has generated $107 million for the city since 2009, even though some stars have apparently found a way around it.
The taxes and fees tracked in a city controller's audit include a facility usage fee that is supposed to reflect 3 percent of what entertainers earn at the venues. But the audit showed Taylor Swift paid $70,411 for a 2013 Heinz Field concert while Kenny Chesney concert paid just $131 the same year.
Lamb says he's not sure what "loophole" some performers are using, it needs to be closed.
Overall, however, the audit concluded the venues are a bargain for the city which diverts less than $1 million annually in parking taxes to pay off stadium bonds.
