Pittsburgh Rebellion Softball Team Gearing Up For Season Opener
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - There is a new professional softball team in the Pittsburgh area called the Pennsylvania Rebellion. They will be playing their inaugural season this summer at Consol Energy Park in Washington, Pa.
The Rebellion are playing in the National Pro Fastpitch league and a few members of the team sat down with Andrew Fillipponi of The Fan's Cook and Poni Show to talk about how the team was put together.
"There are a handful of us that were acquired from a franchise that is no longer," catcher/infielder Lauren Lappin said. "There are a few of us that were traded from other teams, and then yes, there was a draft, a college draft back in the end of March."
With softball no longer a part of the summer Olympics, the Rebellion talked about what it's like not having that goal to strive for any longer.
"It is completely unfortunate and disappointing. There is a vote happening at the end of this year to hopefully get it back for the Tokyo games," said Lappin.
The Rebellion have their season opener on Thursday, June 5 at 7:05 p.m.
