Pittsburgh Police sergeant accused of theft by deception for falsifying timecards at second job

Pittsburgh Police sergeant placed on leave amid theft charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Pittsburgh Police sergeant has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Investigators said Sergeant Brian Marckisotto is facing theft by deception charges after falsifying hours on a timecard.

He was working a security detail at a Target location in East Liberty and padded his timesheet.

According to investigators, he was working a side detail as a security guard in theft prevention but according to investigators that's exactly what he was allegedly engaged in.

Court documents say that Marckisotto is now facing theft by deception charges and unlawful computer usage after allegedly racking up 65 and a half hours in pay for work he never performed at the retailer.

"First of all this target is overrun," said Kumi Takahashi an East Liberty resident who shops at the Target location. "I know there's a lot of police presence there these days the fact they added all this security and someone is taking advantage of it is unacceptable in my opinion."

Marckisotto alleged padded timecards added up to just over $5,700.

A fellow officer discovered Marckisotto's alleged activities and much of it was confirmed via security footage, according to court paperwork

The city released a statement saying that Pittsburgh Police are aware of the criminal charges against Marckisotto and he is on unpaid administrative leave.

We have also reached out to the Fraternal Order of Police for comment and are awaiting a response.
