Police considering foul play in deadly Hill District rollover crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police said it's possible foul play was involved in a rollover crash that killed a man in the Hill District.

According to police, officers were called out to the intersection of Lawson Street and Midtown Square just before midnight on Wednesday. When they arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been ejected from the car and was already dead.

"This is a very in active investigation. Detectives are working to determine exactly what happened here and whether this might've been some kind of intentional act," said Major Crimes Commander Richard Ford.

Police said that investigators from the city's collision investigation unit, the mobile crime unit and the violent crimes unit are investigating the possibility of foul play.

"Because of the unknown circumstances and obviously there was a death involved, that's why we activate multiple teams," said Ford. "We activate accident investigation for the vehicle portion because a vehicle was involved. We have death involved so there might have been somebody else driving the vehicle, so we need to have all of our units there."

Investigators even checked ShotSpotter for alerts in the area. Right now, they're not eliminating any scenarios.

"Without a complete investigation, we have not made that determination of what exactly happened. That's the reason for the multiple units responding because we're not sure what happened. You get one opportunity to process that scene," said Ford.

The man's identity has not been released.
