Pittsburgh police investigating armed carjacking, Chipotle robbery as related

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh police say they're looking for a man who could be behind two armed robberies Sunday night.

The first was a carjacking outside Whole Foods in East Liberty. Not long after, the Chipotle restaurant in the Waterworks Plaza was robbed at gunpoint.

Police have been combing through surveillance footage from both incidents and are investigating them as related.

According to police, the carjacking took place around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night outside of the Whole Foods parking garage in the 5700 block of Penn Ave.

The victim told officials he was sitting in his white Audi station wagon when a man opened his door, pointed a gun at him and forced him out of the car. The actor threw the victim's cell phone before fleeing the area.

A short time later, less than 5 miles away, police said a man robbed the Chipotle restaurant on Freeport Road in Fox Chapel. A man threatened the cashier with a gun and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

"You just don't think of it happening here. It's close, this is where we spend our time. I spend my time all up and down here. So it's very unsettling," said Waterworks Plaza shopper Maggie Snyder.

Nobody was hurt in either incident. The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
