Pittsburgh Police Officer Injured In Wrong-Way Crash, Driver Facing DUI Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man is facing charges after a Pittsburgh Police officer was injured in a wrong-way crash on the North Side.

The crash happened Sunday around 6:40 p.m. at Saturn Way and Jacksonia Street.

Police say Nicholas Najeski was driving the wrong way down Jacksonia Street and slammed into a Pittsburgh Police cruiser head-on.

They say Najeski tried to take off but was quickly captured.

According to the criminal complaint, Najeski had red, blood-shot eyes and smelled of alcohol. Police say they also found a marijuana pipe.

Najeski was driving under a suspended license, police said.

The officer suffered a neck injury from the crash. He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Najeski is facing several charges, including DUI, accident involving damage to a vehicle and illegally operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock. He was not injured in the crash.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
