While authorities have yet to officially identify him, People reports, the Burkle family released a statement to the magazine asking for privacy and remembering Andrew as a "young man full of life."

Andrew was 27 and worked as a producer with a film company in Los Angeles.

On Tuesday afternoon, Penguins legend and co-owner Mario Lemieux, team President and CEO David Morehouse, and star Sidney Crosby sent their sympathy to the Burkle family on the passing of "Drew."

Lemieux said: "We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Andrew Burkle's passing and offer our deepest condolences to Ron and his family. Drew was a bright, creative, energetic young man with a dynamic future ahead of him. Everyone in our organization knows that he was such a big part of his Dad's life, and one of the many things they shared together was their love of Penguins hockey. My friend Ron knows that we are here if he needs us. Our hearts are heavy."

Morehouse said: "I knew Drew Burkle since he was a little boy and my grief and sadness at this sudden news is hard to describe. I never met anyone with such a kind heart, gentle spirit and humility, all wrapped up in love and respect for his Dad. He was a young man so full of life, so full of energy. He will be missed."

Crosby said: "On behalf of myself and the entire Penguins team, we want to express our deepest sympathy to Ron Burkle and his family. Ron and Andrew spent a lot of time together watching the team. We were very fortunate to know Andrew. He was a kind and humble person, and we will all miss seeing him around the room."

Andrew is survived by his father, his mother, a sister Carrie, and a brother John.
