Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Series Of Roster Moves
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pittsburgh Penguins made 5 roster moves and still have some questions before opening the season hosting Anaheim Thursday night.
21-year-old defenseman Scott Harrington was sent back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. Harrington played 76 games in the AHL last year with 5 goals and 19 assists and was a plus 9.
Three were sent to Wheeling of the East Coast Hockey League-forwards Zach Sill and Andrew Ebbett and defenseman Taylor Chorney. This could be a procedural move and any or all of these players could be the first to fill NHL roster spots due to injury.
One of the surprises of camp, 20-year-old forward Oskar Sundqvist was returned to Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League where he will play the entire season. Sundqvist was a Pens third round pick in 2012. The 6'3", 209 pound Sundqvist is in the first year of a three-year entry-level contract.
The team has not decided what to do with 2014 first round pick, forward Kaspari Kapanen as head coach Mike Johnston said he was home in Finland while they make a decision. The 18-year-old Kapanen could play in the Finnish Elite League this season or an outside chance he makes the NHL roster.
