Pittsburgh Gas Prices Inching Close To $2 A Gallon
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The average price of gas in Pittsburgh has fallen to $2.42 a gallon, but could it fall below $2 a gallon?
The last time gas prices were that low was February 2009, nearly six-years ago.
Those lower prices are already impacting car sales.
"There's some pent up demand and some interest and the lower fuel prices are definitely helping us out," Randy Irvin from #1 Cochran says.
In fact gas prices are $1.20 lower than they were a year ago, and it's saving families money.
"If you're a family and have two cars it could mean an additional $900 in your pocket over the next year if prices stick around at this level," Dr. Constantine Samaras of Carnegie Mellon University says.
While the word cheap is relative, drivers are enjoying the cheaper gas.
Oil analysts believe the national average will go below two-dollars a gallon in the next week or two.
Those who sell gas locally now believe the Pittsburgh area is within a couple weeks of dipping below $2 a gallon here.
Gas experts expect the gas price slide to change by the middle to end of the year.
