Man stabs father to death in Pittsburgh, sources say

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Pittsburgh man has been arrested and is accused of stabbing his father to death inside a home in the city's Overbrook neighborhood.

Police officers and medics were called to the home along Lucina Avenue for a domestic incident around 3 p.m. on Monday.

When they arrived, they found 63-year-old James Hudak, who had been stabbed in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that James' son, 28-year-old Christopher Hudak was detained by officers and was taken to the hospital to be treated for a hand injury and then was taken in for questioning.

According to court paperwork, Christopher told an officer who responded to the scene that "I had to defend myself."

Police say that detectives got a warrant to search the home and the first floor of the building was 'in complete disarray' with overturned tables, a smashed television, and items thrown around the room.

According to police, Hudak stabbed his father to death because as he told his grandmother, who told police, his parents weren't feeding him.

Police were made aware of the incident when, according to detectives, Christopher Hudak called his grandmother, telling her that his parents "were not feeding him, and he was hungry." James Hudak then got on the phone and told her that Christopher was lying and he just ate.

That's when, according to what the grandmother told the police, "the phone went dead." The suspect's grandmother also told investigators her grandson may have been having a mental breakdown.

"This surprised me when I heard about this," neighbor Dave Chulack said. "Nothing would ever make me think he was like that at all. There was no reason to think that."

Hudak is in the Allegheny County Jail facing multiple charges, including criminal homicide.
