Pittsburgh Basketball Round Table Discusses Donald Sterling Issue
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - On the Chris Moore Show this past Sunday, there was a roundtable discussion about the controversy surrounding the NBA and Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.
Sterling was banned from the NBA "for life" two weeks ago by NBA Commissoner Adam Silver for comments he made about African Americans. Among the ones in the roundtable was Bill Neal, CEO of the Champion Organization and Founder of the Connie Hawkins Summer Basketball League.
"You know Donald Sterling's history so you're not surprised," Neal said. "And it's shameful, you hate to see it and it affects a lot of people other than the ones he was speaking about."
Chuck Cooper is the son of Pittsburgh native Chuck Cooper Sr., who was the first African American drafted into the NBA.
"Its unfortunate," said Cooper. "When I think about it, I immediately draw parallel from Sterling to Walter Brown, the owner of the Celtics who drafted my father. Regardless of the financial difficulty at the times, he stepped up and did the right thing."
