It's going to be a mild day in the Pittsburgh area before winter weather returns tomorrow

KDKA-TV Morning Forecast (12/10)

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's going to be a mild day today in the Pittsburgh area before winter weather returns to the forecast tomorrow.

Any Alert Days Ahead? Still holding on to the FAWD for Wednesday.  Snow totals don't look like much when it comes to higher-resolution models.  Low-resolution models are struggling and continue to show higher snow totals. Wind chill values will dip to single digits on Thursday and possibly Friday morning too.  Thursday morning wind speeds will be in the 7-15mph range.

Aware: Winter weather paradise for the second straight weekend for ski resorts this weekend

The countdown reaches one, as today will be the final mild weather day this week with cold weather set to return tomorrow.  Highs today will hit the mid-50s. It'll be the third day in a row with highs in the 50s. Morning temperatures are in the mid-40s.  It is damp outside.  The morning hours are looking dry.  Scattered afternoon showers are expected with rain totals of just about a tenth of an inch. Yesterday we saw 0.51" of rain at the Pittsburgh/Moon NWS offices.  The best chance for rain will come from 1p to 6p today. Winds will be variable and just around 5mph.

Things begin getting interesting tomorrow as a cold front moves through.  Model data shows a surge of moisture occurring along the front with scattered (to maybe even widespread) rain turning to a fairly heavy mix of rain and snow late Wednesday morning through the early afternoon.  Snow totals have really come down over the last 24 hours.

Roads will remain slick though and with plunging temperatures during the afternoon, we could be dealing with slick road conditions during the afternoon. The chance will remain in the low range.

Temperatures will drop through the day on Wednesday with the potential for single-digit wind chills on both Thursday and Friday mornings.  Temperatures on Thursday should dip to around 20 degrees but wind speeds will be in the low teens (7-15mph). Morning temperatures have started to come up on Friday morning.

At this time it still appears single-digit wind chills are on the board, but data is starting to bring clouds into our region late Thursday into Friday morning with winds falling to 5-10mph.

Friday morning could be VERY cold if we stay clear.  We will monitor both days.
