Two people found shot to death inside home in Pittsburgh area

SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- The suspect in a deadly double shooting in Scott Township was found dead in West Virginia, police said.

Allegheny County police said the shooting happened at a home along Great Oak Drive just before 3 a.m. on Monday.

When first responders arrived at the scene, they found a 53-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman who had been shot. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were identified as 50-year-old Christy Reeves and 53-year-old William Rabatin.

Scott Township police called in county police to help with the investigation. Detectives said they determined the shooting was domestic and identified 50-year-old Dennis Rahuba as the suspect.

"We learned the female victim and the male suspect were involved in a long-term relationship," Allegheny County Police Lt. Venerando Costa said. "That relationship was coming to a close and the female victim and the male victim started a new relationship."

"He made contact with two of his children and let them know what happened," he added.

Around 7 a.m., deputies from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office in West Virginia found Rahuba's vehicle in Charleston. He was found dead inside the car a short time later, police said.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said they had received information that Rahuba was wanted in connection with the double homicide and may have been traveling towards the area on Interstate 79 in a black Acura with a Pennsylvania license plate.

A sheriff's deputy spotted the suspect's vehicle and multiple law enforcement officials tried to pull him over. The interstate was shut down and the suspect's vehicle was surrounded. When the deputy tried to order the suspect from his vehicle, he reported hearing what he believed to be a gunshot.

SWAT members approached the vehicle and found Rahuba dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the sheriff's office said.

Police said the suspect entered through an unlocked backdoor and shot the pair. The suspect's son told KDKA-TV that he is heartbroken after losing his parents unexpectedly. He said they were together for 28 years. They were not married but lived together when the shooting happened.

Allegheny County police said the investigation is still active.
