Pitt's Jamie Dixon: We Didn't Do Enough To Win Against Syracuse

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon joined The Cook and Poni Show Monday morning following a tough loss at Syracuse on Saturday.

"We went up there expecting to win, but we fell short and that falls on us because we didn't do the things we need to do down the stretch," Dixon said.

The Panthers fell 59-54 to the No. 2 ranked Orange at the Carrier Dome on Saturday. Pitt, after taking a late lead, failed to make a single shot from the field in the final six minutes.

Pitt falls to 16-2 and was their first loss in the ACC.

Dixon said after watching the tape of the game, he thought his team played well and really got after it, but they just could not buy a basket down the stretch.

"We had good shots. It was just like there was a lid on the basket at the end," Dixon said. "We did everything we wanted to do and we put ourselves in position to win. We just didn't guard well enough."

Dixon said there are no moral victories in this game because they went there expecting to win. But, he does feel this game will make them better. He says this is a young team that has gotten better all year.

Pitt doesn't have much time to wait before getting a chance to get this bad taste out of their mouths as they host Clemson at the Pete Tuesday at 8 p.m.

"They are very similar to us," Dixon said. "They are very good defensively, they are quick and athletic at every position. They are physical and they play hard."

Dixon pointed out that other than Pitt, Clemson may be the surprise team of the ACC thus far. The Tigers come to town with a record of 13-4 and are 4-1 in the ACC.
