Pitt's Billy Knight Named To ACC Legends Class

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With 1,731 career points good for an average of 22.2 points per game, former Pitt basketball star Billy Knight has been named to the ACC's 2015 Basketball Legends Class.

Playing at Pitt from 1971-1974 including three varsity seasons, Knight was the first-ever Pitt player to register 500-plus points and 250-plus rebounds in a season and his 1,731 is still good for ninth on the school's all-time career scoring list. Knight's 938 career rebounds place him fourth all-time in program history.

Knight led the Panthers to the 1974 NCAA Eastern Regional finals and earned All-America honors. Knight also won the Panther Award that season as the student-athlete who best promoted the university through athletic achievement.

Knight went on to an 11-year All-Pro career in both the ABA and NBA and had a stint as the Atlanta Hawks' general manager.

Knight's jersey number 34 was retired by Pitt in 1989.
