Pitt Students Prepare For Move-In Day, Face Quarantines And New Restrictions
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Oakland is about to get a little busier as we near the start of the fall semester. University of Pittsburgh students will began moving back onto campus Tuesday morning.
For students coming to Pitt, they will have to shelter-in-place for 14 days before attending in-person classes. According to the university, seven days of quarantine must be completed before arriving on campus, and the next seven are to be done once they move in.
Some students may need to attend remote classes even after in-person classes start.
To prevent spread of the Coronavirus, about 25% of the first-year students will be living in nearby hotels to help limit the number of people in dorms.

Pitt says they are prepared to test up to 400 students a day to learn about the prevalence of the virus across their five campuses.
"I might go out to the little park over there but social distance, but I'm not going to be hanging out with huge groups of people," said freshman biology major Haley Wilkerson.
Throughout the shelter-in-place period, Pitt plans to screen students for the Coronavirus.
Glenn Grier was dropping off his freshman son Jamir.
"I'm sending my firstborn to college and I want my firstborn to come home from college," he said.
Grier was part of the staggered arrival times for students. About 1,500 students will be coming at a time to prevent too many people being together.
"I don't think as many universities are as prepared as Pitt with respect to the pandemic, the virus, the healthcare," he said.
All students should be moved in by the end of the month.
"I like this very organized structured version and a lot of my friends that I've talked to understand the regulations," Grier's son Jamir said.
Pitt also has formed a COVID-19 response team that will work with UPMC.
If a student tests positive, they will be isolated from others.
