Pitt Ladies Give No. 2 Tennessee All They Could Handle In 77-67 Loss
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- The Pitt women's basketball program has come a long way under second-year head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio.
The Panthers were coming off a 51-40 first round victory over Chattanooga on Saturday which snapped the Mocs' 25-game winning streak.
But the Lady Vols had too much experience and showed it in a 77-67 win Monday night from their home court in Knoxville.
Senior Brianna Kiesel saved her best game for last, registering a career high 32 points in her final college game.
Bashaara Graves scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds for Tennessee, who withstood a late rally by the Panthers before pulling away with the victory.
The second-seeded Lady Vols (29-5) improved to 56-0 in NCAA tournament home games and advanced to a Spokane Region semifinal Saturday against No. 11 seed Gonzaga (26-7).
After trailing by 14 with 4-and-a-half minutes left, Pittsburgh (20-12) cut the lead to 69-65 on Brianna Kiesel's three-point play with 37.8 seconds remaining. Ariel Massengale went 6-of-6 on free throws and made a steal in the final 37 seconds to seal Tennessee's victory.
