Pitt Head Coach Dixon: Tough Regular Season Prepared Pitt For NCAA Run
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)-Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Tuesday to chat about his eleventh NCAA appearance in the past 13 years.
Dixon will enter the tournament this year as a No. 10 seed. It's the lowest of any of his previous tournament teams, but he thinks a team likes his can get hot at the right time and make a run.
Pitt's run will begin Friday night in St. Louis vs. No. 7 seed Wisconsin at 6:50 p.m.
"No matter what your seed is I think every team goes in with the belief that they can win the whole thing," Dixon said. "We're excited about this opportunity. We know we are playing a real good team in Wisconsin."
Dixon said that despite coaching changes in Wisconsin, they still have great players and the style of play is the same as the Badgers who played Duke in the National Championship game last year.
"They still have very good players," Dixon said. "They play the same way. Patient on offense, defensively they are sagging in the lane and protecting the basket and they are physical on the glass."
Dixon said a lower-seeded team always makes a run somewhere in the bracket and he thinks his team has been tested enough to be able to do just that.
"It's a good thing to play the people we have played to put us in a good position," Dixon said. "There is a lot of parity (in this year's tournament) and not much separation. Hopefully, you're the team playing its best."
