Pitt Football Lands Local Quarterback Recruit
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The verbal commitments continue to come in for new Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi and this time it's a local kid.
According to his own Twitter feed, Pine-Richland Quarterback Ben DiNucci has decommitted from the University of Pennsylvania and has committed to Narduzzi and the Pitt Panthers.
The previous Pitt coaching staff (Paul Chryst) didn't offer DiNucci a scholarship but after working out for Pitt offensive coordinator Jim Chaney last Monday that changed.
According to the scouting service Rivals.com, DiNucci is rated a 3-star recruit and many scouts believe he can be a "sleeper" recruit for Pitt.
In his career at Pine-Richland, DiNucci has completed 548 of 809 attempts for 7,619 yards, 72 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. In his final year, DiNucci threw 46 touchdowns to just 9 interceptions while leading the Rams to a WPIAL championship.
The 2015 Pitt Panther team was in need of quarterback depth on their roster, currently having
only incumbent starter Chad Voytik and redshirt freshman Adam Bertke. Depending on how he adapts and performs in camp, it's not out of the question for DiNucci to earn a spot as the Pitt backup quarterback this season.
DiNucci, the 2014-2015 Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania, was previously committed to the UPENN over offers from Akron, Albany, Central Connecticut State and Fordham.
DiNucci is listed at 6-foot-3-inches and 198 pounds.
