Pitt AD Steve Pederson Says A Pitt-Penn State Bowl Game Is Possible

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - University of Pittsburgh Athletic Director Steve Pederson joined the Cook and Poni Show on Friday morning.

The guys first wanted to know if there was any shot of a Pitt-Penn State bowl game?

"Yes," Pederson said. "The framework exists because of the bowl agreements for that to happen."

Pederson points out that there are two very possible scenarios in the Pinstripe Bowl or at the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit. He admits that the decision is not really in the hands of either school.

"Those decisions are being made in the conference offices," Pederson said. "All we can do is encourage the thought of that and hope it works out."

Pederson says he feels that the Pitt football program is moving in the right direction and he just asks that the fans be patient while they try and build a program that is a consistent winner.

The guys wondered what the future might hold for Pitt head coach Paul Chryst who has two years remaining on his deal. Are there any discussions about an extension for Chryst?

"We want Paul to coach here for a long time," Pederson said. "He is the right guy and we want him to continue to be part of this and keep building what he is building. That is all I can say at this point, but he is our coach and were excited he is our coach."

Pederson also talked about the City Game and will Pitt ever renew playing basketball against rival WVU?
