Pirates Acquire Former Top Prospect From The Braves

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- The Pirates on Thursday night acquired former Dominican Republic standout Edward Salcedo from the Atlanta Braves for minor league pitcher Bryton Trepagnier.

Salcedo, 23, received a $1.6 million bonus from the Braves in 2010 and was regarded to be one of the top hitting prospects to come out of the Dominican Republic in some time.

In 2014, he hit .212 with 10 home runs at AAA Gwinnet.  He has a career .230 batting average in five minor league seasons.

Salcedo was signed as a shortstop, but has split time between third base and right field in recent years.

Trepagnier was the Pirates 41st round pick in the 2010.  He pitched for high-A Bradenton in 2014.

This is the third trade completed by General Manager Neal Huntington this week.
