Pine-Richland High School temporarily locks down after empty bullet shell casing found in cafeteria

CBS News Pittsburgh

GIBSONIA, Pa. (KDKA) - Pine-Richland High School went into a temporary lockdown on Friday after an empty bullet shell casing was found in the cafeteria.

The district said a search of all students and all bags in the cafeteria didn't turn up any weapons or other empty bullet shell casings.

During the investigation by school officials and the Northern Regional Police Department, the district said the student who brought the casing was identified.

Officials originally asked parents and visitors to stay away from the area and not come to the high school. Now the district said an announcement has been made and students will be dismissed to buses at the regular time.

The district said the issue was immediately reported by the student body and asked parents or students with more information to contact the tip line at 724-449-TIPS and use the Safe2Say Something application or website.

District officials and police will continue to investigate.
