At Least 6 Police Officers Shot In Philadelphia, Another Injured
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Six Philadelphia police officers were shot in Philadelphia's Nicetown-Tioga section and rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
The officers were taken to Temple University Hospital. Another was injured in the incident.
All the officers are in stable condition and have been released.
The suspect reportedly live-streamed the shootout.
CBS News reports two officers were inside the second floor of the home with three prisoners, while the gunman remains on the first floor.
Everyone has now been evacuated except the gunman.
Here is the latest from CBS Philadelphia.
Governor Tom Wolf released a statement, saying:
"Frances and I are deeply troubled by another mass shooting in our commonwealth. Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families, the Philadelphia Police Department, the medical staff treating the officers, and all those effected by this dangerous event, including the residents of these neighborhoods.
"I spoke with Mayor Kenney this evening to pledge the commonwealth's full support for whatever is needed to bring this ordeal to an end. We will continue to support the victims, the police force and all of Philadelphia's residents.
"Tonight is another reminder of the selfless sacrifice of our law enforcement officers and first responders. We are praying for a peaceful resolution and the full recovery of all those injured. We must remain committed to combatting violence and getting dangerous weapons out of our communities."
Attorney General Josh Shapiro released a statement, saying:
"Tonight's events are what tear at the fabric of our Commonwealth. We are indebted to the men and women who stand on the front lines protecting our cities, towns and neighborhoods- those who run towards danger when instinct tells you to run away. That is the kind of bravery I see from law enforcement across our Commonwealth every day.
My thoughts are with the officers wounded in tonight's horrific incident, their families who share the burden of service, and the medical professionals who worked to treat them.
I've communicated with Police Commissioner Ross and offered our office's resources for any needs his department has during this time. Our communities cannot sustain this type of violence. This cannot continue."
