New York Pharmacy Institutes 'Man Tax'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Manhattan pharmacy is dealing with intense backlash after establishing a so-called "man tax."
According to Time, the independent pharmacy began advertising a 7 percent "man tax" on products earlier this week, in an effort to combat the "pink tax." The "pink tax" refers to reports that women pay more than men on pharmacy products.
Thompson Chemist owner, Jolie Alony, noted that the "man tax" is actually a discount for women. Instead of increasing priced, the pharmacy was applying a 7 percent discount on women's products.

Still, plenty of customers were furious about the tax, calling the practice "sexist" and advising the owner to seek a lawyer.
"We wanted to share that women deserve to get a break, and men deserve to be charged 7 percent more. Women are spending more in general and we make less, so we deserve to have a break," Alony told The Daily Dot.
