Pens To Host Game 6 Watch Party Inside Consol Energy Center
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Penguins will be hosting a watch party inside Consol Energy Center on Sunday.
The Penguins will be looking to win the Stanley Cup when they go on the road for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. They had a chance to clinch the series Thursday night, but the San Jose Sharks staved off elimination with a 4-2 win.
Thousands upon thousands of fans came out to watch the game on the big screen set up outside Consol Energy Center. There were so many a second big screen had to be set up in Market Square. The turnout astounded everybody.
"We were surprised to see how many people showed up so early," said City Operations Officer Guy Costa. "I think they were there as early as 7 o'clock [Thursday] morning outside the Consol Energy Center. By 3:30 p.m., the whole area was almost full. We had to start shutting down streets at 3:30. Five hours before a hockey game."
With Sunday's Game 6 in San Jose, fans will be able to watch the game on the scoreboard screen inside Consol Energy Center.
You can buy tickets to the event here.
Tickets are $10 and go on sale at 2 p.m. All proceeds go to the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the puck will drop shortly after 8 p.m.
Concession stands and the Pens Gear store will be open.
The watch party means extra work for city crews, because besides the Pens' game, there's the Three Rivers Arts Festival, PrideFest and a Pirates game.
Officials say they'll be concentrating on several areas of the city, including the North Shore.
"North Shore because there's a Pirates game, and the Pirates game ends around the same time the Penguins game begins, so we think a lot of folks are going to stay, stick around North Shore," Costa said.
