Pens Analyst Jay Caufield: More Than 1 Game Ban For Letang Would Be 'Excessive'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Root Sports Penguins Analyst Jay Caufield joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Tuesday to recap Game 3 of against Washington and the upcoming hearing for Kris Letang.
It was announced that the NHL will have a hearing with Letang today for his hit on Marcus Johansson. He could be facing a suspension for Game 4, or longer.
"I think you could expect to see one game come out of this," Caufield said. "More than one game is excessive, but with all of the talk going on, they may feel they need to do a little more, but it should be one game."
Caufield said the Pens will greatly miss Letang if he does get suspended, but they do have the depth to make up his minutes if need be.
"He brings every element of the game. So, if he is out it would be a major, major piece to lose," Caufield said. "They have depth, but they need guys to step up."
Caufield also thought coming out of Washington, the Pens had been the better team despite being tied 1-1. However, he felt that the Caps were the better team in Game 3 and that goalie Matt Murray may have stolen one.
"I thought going into last night Washington had to come and play and they did, but Matt Murray was better." Caufield said.
He still thinks that the winner of this series is his favorite to win the Stanley Cup.
