Penn State Head Coach: 'I Got A Lot Of Respect For Pitt & Coach Narduzzi'

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Following the Steelers draft pick of Penn State tight end Jesse James, head coach James Franklin joined the Starkey and Mueller show to talk about what sort of player the Steelers can expect from their new tight end.

Franklin also talked about the rivalry between Pitt and Penn State and whether or not it's heating up since Pat Narduzzi was hired.

"I got a lot of respect for Pitt, for the history, for the tradition, for the city and Coach Narduzzi and what he's doing there," Franklin said. "I think he's put together a great staff. I think it's great for college football, I think it's great for the state of Pennsylvania and we're looking forward to having fun."

Getting to the Jesse James talk, Franklin talked about the size and traits James has that are rare in a tight end.

"You're talking about a guy that's just got a combination of traits that are hard to find," Franklin said. "He's legitimately 6-foot-7, he's legitimately 260-plus-pounds that could be as big as you want it to be. Freakishly strong...I think his best football is ahead of him."

Franklin also talked about how it feels to lose a recruit to another team, how they react to that both personally and professionally, and also told us about his ongoing caravan tour.
