Penguins Receive 9-Carat Stanley Cup Championship Rings

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One final order of business before the new season can begin.

On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins will raise their fourth Stanley Cup Championship banner to the rafters of PPG Paints Arena. Then, a new season will begin as they take on the Washington Capitals.

But, on Monday night, the Pens gathered for one final celebration at the Heinz History Center where they received their championship rings.

Jostens designed the nearly nine-carat rings, featuring more than 300 diamonds.

Pittsburgh Penguins President and CEO David Morehouse said in a statement on the Penguins' website: "These unique and brilliant rings will always be an inspiring symbol of what our players and coaches accomplished by winning the Stanley Cup. On behalf of our owners, Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, as well as our players and coaches, I want to thank Jostens for the creativity and craftsmanship that went into this very special Stanley Cup championship ring project."

The right panel of the ring features four diamond-encrusted Stanley Cup trophies and the year, "2016." The left side has the team name, plus the player's number and last name.

Engraved on the inside is the team's motto, "Just Play."
