Penguins Recall Goaltender Tomas Vokoun From AHL Conditioning Assignment

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - With the playoffs starting on Wednesday and the question marks that constantly surround Marc-Andre Fleury this time of year, the Pens announced they've recalled goalie Tomas Vokoun from his conditioning assignment in the AHL.

The 37-year-old Vokoun was with the Baby Pens trying to get back in shape after returning from a blood clot in his pelvis during the preseason. The condition cost him the entire regular season.

In his two games with the Baby Pens, Vokoun went 1-1-0 with a 2.41 goals-against-average and an .891 save percentage.

It is not yet known if Vokoun will supplant backup Jeff Zatkoff for the playoffs, but his history with the Pens in the playoffs will certainly be in his favor.

After replacing Fleury in the playoffs last year, Vokoun went 6-5 in 11 playoff games with a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .933 save percentage.
