Penguins Present Jaromir Jagr With Plaque As Part Of Anniversary Celebration

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Jaromir Jagr returned on Tuesday night to Pittsburgh, the place where his legendary career started more than a couple decades ago.

During the game against the Florida Panthers at PPG Paints Arena, the Penguins honored Jagr as part of their continuing 50th anniversary celebration.

He was presented with a plaque engraved with his number and the team's anniversary logo, which was made from the roof of the old Civic Arena. It's a place where Jagr made so many hockey memories.

Jagr hasn't wore a Penguins' jersey in a very long time, but he says the city and fans still have a special place in his heart.

"That's where I started, and I was just a little kid when I was 18-years-old and I came to Pittsburgh, and all the fans and all the people in the organization, they treated me like I was their kid," Jagr said. "They know how tough was it for me; I didn't speak any English, so all the people in this city wanted to make it easy for me and I was probably one of the first European guys to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins, so it was kind of different with everyone trying to help me."

Jagr played for the Penguins from 1990-2001.
